Dominick Dunne: Power, Privilege & Justice

UPDATED!

Tonight on TruTV, the late Dominick Dunne's series, Power Privilege and Justice will be airing an episode on Phil Spector. Beth Karas, from CNN's In Sessions, Linda Deutsch from the Associated Press and Steven Mikulan from The LA Weekly are interviewed.

Recently, the online tabloid news has reported that Spector, writing his friends and fans from prison has told them that prison is driving him insane. Last night on the Jay Leno Show, Leno quipped:

"And record producer Phil Spector says life in prison is making him insane. Apparently he's no longer the level-headed guy who shot his dinner date..."

Thanks to all my Facebook friends and T&T contributor Dave in Tennessee for the heads up on the show.

UPDATE:
I finally watched the episode this morning. This was one of the best shows that Dominick did. I was surprised to see that another reporter I respect, Ciaran McEvoy with the Los Angeles Daily Journal, was also interviewed as part of the show along with Peter Y. Hong of the Los Angeles Times.

I just watched the program. It is one of the best episodes this series has ever had IMO.

I guess if you don't have cable you cant see it?

Well didn't he say he was 'relatively insane' in an interview published just before he met Lana Clarkson? How long do we have to wait for this to be accomplished?
He's slower than Christmas.

I miss Dominic Dunne. His work lives on and we can appreciate what a master he was in reporting a story. He did a good job on the Spector trial. Spector had too much money, too much power and too much of himself. The tragedy is he just doesn't know how good a life he COULD have had and a wonderful woman would still be alive today.

I don't think it revealed anymore than we already know, thanks to T & T. During the trial, he, and his defense, during both trials, revealed clearly what a self obesssed person he is, and more, how attacking the victim is just pathetic. PS has absolutely no regret, other than his now miserable life, which he will continually blame on others, especially the victim, Lana. I cannot help but wonder if these women who testified to his abuse may have stopped him years ago if they had pressed charges, and stuck to them.
Power is an amazing thing, and PS in his days certainly had it over many people.

This may be one of the last 'new'
Power and Priviledge episodes we have from Dominick, and I will always miss his wit, writings, and take on life of such power.

He didn't buy into Spector for a second, and knowing now his voice is silenced, all the more poignant.

Betsy, you had a fabulous opportunity to meet Dominick up close and personal, and thank you for sharing your experiences with him through this sad saga.

I think Dominick Dunne did a great job summarizing the Spector case. I would like to hear his views on Phil's claim of prison making him insane. Most likely it would have been spicy.

The only thing I wish had been included in the episode was the broken wrists Lana suffered so that those who didn't know the case, as well as the readers of T&T do, would know that Lana taking that job at the House of Blues was a step toward recovery not a step down in desperation.

Hopefully it will be aired up in Oregon, it was pre empted by something about Michael Jackson's tapes up here.

I missed the show. Does anyone know where to find it on the internet?

Tru TV will run it again. However, it may be several weeks or months. This seems to have been the last of a series of new episodes produced this year. You can keep an eye on the Tru TV schedule for when they start showing the 2009 episodes again. The program on Phil Spector was one of the best.

I immediately thought of you when I read a local (Houston, Tx.) blogger's story about his recent trip to NY and his mistaken ID. Hope you enjoy! I appreciate your writing. Thanks for the coverage.
