I'm a retired lawyer -45 yrs. 21 years a judge. i've nerver seen a trial so full of sloppy eveidence mainly by the defense-i.e. Baeze. Is he a real lawyer? He continually ask leading Qs on direct exam. However, the State permits him to do this. I've found out that if a lawyer is forced to abide by the rules of evid. regarding the prohibition of leading Qs on direct exam he is severly restricted. Unskilled lawyers DO NOT know how to formulate a direct Q. required on direct exam
I,ve actually seen lawyers give-up or limit their examination on direct exam. BG

Anon @ 11:03 am:

There have been many opinions about Jose Baez's competence that fall right in line with your observations.

In Session's Beth Karas reported the following about 3 hours ago on her IS Facebook page:

QUOTE:
Baez just corrected me. He told me he has had 45 jury trials, 5 of which were homicides and one of which was a capital case.

Which makes you realize two things:

1. Baez is not completely green; he has had a few trials under his belt and still his courtroom experience leaves a lot to be desired.

2. The defense team is closely following the media coverage. Maybe not Baez personally, but his clerks and support staff most definitely are and reporting back to him.

During Spector 1 and Spector 2, the defense did the same thing; they were following what the media was reporting. (Well, during Spector 2, I was pretty much it.) During the Cameron Brown retrial I covered, the defense read my coverage.

It's my opinion that Baez does enjoy the media coverage.
