Cameron Brown Retrial: Mistrial Request Denied

After questioning Juror Number 1, the defense requested a mistrial. The motion was denied. The jurors were strongly admonished to disregard anything they read, may have read, or may have heard regarding the printout of the dictionary definition of malice that was brought into the jury room. Judge Pastor clearly told the jurors the definition was wrong as it relates to this case.

All jurors agreed that they would disregard the information and could continue deliberating.

Trial Begins for Jerome Barrett Accused of 1975 Murder of Marcia Trimble

With jury selection completed the Marcia Trimble murder case will begin at 8:30 this morning. The jury consists of seven women and five men.

The first witness is expected to be Virginia Trimble, Marcia’s mother.

9-year-old Marcia disappeared Feb. 25, 1975 while delivering girlscout cookies. Evidence found when her body was discovered led police to believe that she had been sexually assaulted and strangled to death.

Jerome Barrett was convicted earlier this year of murdering Vanderbilt University student Sarah Des Prez in 1975.

He was arrested and charged with Marcia’s death in early 2008. Prosecutors, in opening statements will tell the jury that Barrett's DNA was found on Marcia's blouse.

The trial will be streamed by several local stations and TruTV may also carry the trial.
