Prosecution Witnesses
1. HUGH MARTIN - LAPD - Firefighter-Paramedic. Responded to the scene of a stabbing in May 2001. Victims Luz Nieves and Francisco Santos. Translated victim's statement in the ambulance for officer Anderson. Victim stated "Junebug" when asked who did this.
2. RAFFI DJABOURIAN, MD - Senior Deputy Medical Examiner for Los Angeles County Coroner. Performed the post-mortem on victim Luz Nieves in 2001.
3. SEAN ANDERSON - LAPD Officer. Responded to the 2001 stabbing scene. Rode in the ambulance with victim Nieves to the hospital. Asked victim who did this to her.

4. GABRIEL COLON - LAPD Officer. Responded to the 2001 event where Nieves and Santos were stabbed.
Day 5, Part II & Day 5, Part III
5. FRANCISO SANTOS - Surviving victim of May 2001 knife attack. Testified as to what he remembers happened to him and Luz Nieves.

6 RICHARD HOUSEHOLDER - Retired LAPD Detective. Part of the investigation of the September 1997 stabbing deaths of Nancy and Shawn Boehm. Interviewed Martinez at the North Hollywood Police Station. Martinez told Householder he had known the victim Nancy Boehm his whole life. He said he went to school with Shawn and his sister Leticia. He said the last time he saw Nancy was over a week ago. Told Householder he spoke to Nancy every day.
7 MARTIN PINNER - LAPD Detective. Investigated the Nieves and Santos stabbings in May 2001. Interviewed Martinez after the attack on Nieves and Santos. The audio recording of that interview is introduced through this witness.
Day 6
7 MARTIN PINNER - Playing of the interview tape continued. Detective Pinner testifies that no weapon was recovered in that case.
8 DAVID RIEMEN - LAPD Detective, tesifying in uniform. Reimen was a patrol officer in 1997. He responded to the Boehm murder scene. Reimen filled out a field interview card on Martinez. Reimen was assigned the task of going door to door and interviewing potential witnesses. Reimen has no independent memory of that day.
9 BRUCE LYLE - Former LA County Coroner Investigator. Responded to the Boehm murder scene. Collected Shawn and Nancy's bodies and transported them to the Coroner's. Collected fingernail scrapings and fingernail clippings from the bodies of Shawn and Nancy Boehm.
10 SUSAN RINEHART - LAPD Criminalist - Responded to the 1997 Boehm murder scene. Introduces many crime scene photos that were taken at the scene. Collected numerous pieces of evidence. Meticulously recovered/uncovered the several layers of papers, bags, purses and other items that were on top of Nancy Boehm.

9 BRUCE LYLE - Recalled to clarify he was mistaken on how he collected the fingernail evidence.
11 STEVEN KORDAK - Neighbor and friend of Nancy and Shawn Boehm. Kordak grew up in the neighborhood. Spoke to Shawn Boehm on the street around 11 AM, Friday September 19, 1997, the day before Shawn and Nancy's bodies were found. Testified to what he knew about Shawn's capabilities.
10 SUSAN RINEHART - testimony continued. Under cross examination, introduced over 50 photographs from the Boehm murder scene.
12 JESSICA STOCKTON - Lived with Nancy Boehm for approximately two months before the murders. Testifies to Nancy's security procedures at the house. Describes what she knew of Shawn's capabilities.
Day 8
13 MELISSA POPOVIC - LAPD Criminalist. Forensic print specialist, latent print unit. Popovic collected evidence in the 2001 case. Collected a partial bloody palm print left on the door jam or door, of Nieves bedroom door. On Monday, 2/4, she printed the defendant's palms. She matched the bloody palm print she found on the door to the defendant.
14 CHRISTINE SALMAS - Friend and former customer of Nancy Boehm. Knew Nancy from around 1995-6 to around the time of her death. Knew the security procedures at Nancy's house. Testified about Nancy's procedures and how Nancy conducted business in her home. Testified about an incident where there were many people in the home, waiting for a "runner" to deliver drugs. Martinez was there and she overheard Nancy say something to the defendant. When detectives showed her a photo of Martinez, she gave the following statement: "I’m almost sure this is the guy that I saw once in her house. She had to tell him to calm down and be quiet. She shushed him. He must have been coked up and I only saw him once."
15 ROBERT CALLAHAN - Friend of Nancy Boehm. Callahan testifies that Nancy was pretty much his best friend from the time he met her in 1991 until her death. He knew Shawn and mentored him. took him to the Special Olympics, carnivals, etc. Shawn was a fun kid to be around. He knew about Nancy's security procedures and observed her business transactions. Stated that Nancy did sell drugs on credit. Knew Martinez and identifies him. Believes he saw Nancy refuse credit to Martinez once and make him leave her home. Observed Martinez angry and screaming at Nancy a few times.
Day 9 & Short Update II
Defense Witness taken out of order
1. JEFFREY BECK - LAPD Sargent, Watch Command. In 2001 was a patrol officer. He responded to the Nieves and Santos crime scene. He interviewed Mr. Santos with Officer Guthrie. At some point during the interview, Mr. Santos became uncooperative and threatened to "fuck up" the defendant. Officer Beck verifies that Mr. Santos gave the same story to him that he testified to on the stand.

16 BARBARA LEAL - Criminalist; Senior DNA Analyst for Cellmark Forensics. Explains STR testing and Y-STR testing and the purpose of each test. Explains the four steps of developing an DNA profile from a sample. (more to come)
17 PATRICIA HUCK - LAPD Criminialist since 1984. DNA Analyst since 2008. Performed DNA analysis in the Boehm's case. Received the partial male profile developed by Cellmark and submitted it into CODIS. Identified through CODIS a potential suspect in the Boehm murders, Rafael Martinez, Jr. Performed two different analysis, a "likelihood ratio" and a "combined probability of inclusion" analysis on the two DNA profiles found under Nancy's fingernails. For the first test, she did a calculation where she assumed one profile was Nancy's. She then performed a calculation which tells her what is the probability that Rafael Martinez' DNA is the second part of that mixture. It is 3.297 billion times more likely to get the profile of Rafael Martinez, than if it was someone else's profile. The second analysis test gives a lower number. It tells how many different people could possibly be in that mixture. 1 in 123,900 individual's could be included in that mixture. Rafael Martinez could not be excluded as a contributor to the DNA mixture found under Nancy's fingernails.

18 THOMAS TOWNSEND - LAPD Detective. Investigating Officer on the Boehm murders. Explains the murder book and the various sections it contains. Collected a DNA sample from the defendant after there was a CODIS hit.
17 PATRICIA HUCK - testimony resumed
19 VINCENT BANCROFT - LAPD Detective. Joined the investigation into Nancy and Shawn Boehm's deaths about two days after they were found. Collected the fingernail kits and blood samples for Nancy and Shawn from the Coroner's office and booked them into LAPD evidence. Interviewed potential witnesses.
Day 10
20 PATRICIA ROBBINS - Family friend and neighbor of Nancy and Shawn Boehm. When Shawn was little, occasionally babysit for Nancy.
21 TERESA FIERRO - Family friend and neighbor ot Nancy and Shawn Boehm. Sister to Patricia Robbins. Was Shawn's babysitter when Shawn was little. Visited Nancy at her home on September 16, 1997 at around 11 PM until 3 AM the next morning when she left the residence.
22 DR. IRWIN GOLDEN - Retired Deputy Medical Coroner with Los Angeles County. Performed the autopsy on Nancy Boehm.
23 DR. LOUIS PENA - Deputy Medical Coroner with Los Angeles County. Reviewed the autopsy on Shawn Boehm performed by Dr. Bockhacker.

24 JODY HYNDS - DNA Analyst; worked at Cellmark 2002-2008. Currently employed by the Orange County District Attorney's Office.
Defense Witness taken out of order
2 FRANK KRYSHAK - LAPD Officer; responded to the 2001 crime scene where Luz Nieves was murdered and Francisco Santos survived his injuries. Collected bullet, 6.68 grams of cocaine and a bloody, ten dollar bill from the crime scene. Sargent Kryshak did not have an independent recollection of events.

3 TAMI MAYNARD - Friend of Nancy and Shawn Boehm for about ten years. Occasionally saw the defendant at Nancy's.
She was a friend and customer and knew Nancy sold drugs on credit. The name she knew Martinez by was "Junior." Saw Martinez at Nancy's house occasionally. Testified about what she knew of Nancy, her habits, the different groups of friends, the bars Nancy frequented, the security procedures at the house, how many different people she saw at the house, etc. Testified about Shawn and his capabilities. Stated the last time she spoke/saw Martinez was several months before Nancy's death.
4 ANTHONY GOBEA - Witness at the 2001 crime event when Nieves and Santos were attacked. He was in a building next door. At 1:15 AM in the morning of May 10, 2001, he heard two people arguing. He couldn't understand what they were saying. It was two males. It continued for a bit, but he couldn’t hear what they were saying. He hear a door shut, a loud scream and then a bang. When he heard tires squealing, he and a friend stepped outside and saw Mr. Santos in the street, bleeding. They called 911. He remembers the man saying, "Help me, please, help me, please." Gobea and his friend told Santos to stay put.
5 STEPHANIE MARTINEZ - Rafael Martinez' aunt by marriage. The defendant is her nephew and David Martinez [Jr.] is her stepson.
6 DAVID MARTINEZ [Sr.] - Rafael's uncle.
7 RAFAEL MARTINEZ - Defendant. Direct testimony complete. No cross examination yet.
Day 12
8 Marc Taylor, President and Laboratory Director of Technical Associates, Inc. Mr. Tayor is detailing his CV when I arrive. Technical Associates performed DNA testing on Shawn and Nancy Boehm's fingernails as well as the fingernail scrapings. The results of their testing is presented to the jury.

Synopsis
Nancy Boehm was unemployed and supplementing her income at the time of her death by selling cocaine out of her North Hollywood home. Her son Shawn, 23, has been described as having the mental capacity of a 12 or 13 year old. The Los Angeles Times reported that he participated in the Special Olympics.
Nancy's property was gated and friends described her as very concerned about security. Nancy's friends knew to call first before they came over. Nancy and Shawn's bodies were found with multiple stab wounds. Nancy was found in a back bedroom where she transacted business. Shawn was found in another bedroom. DNA evidence linked to the defendant was found underneath Nancy's fingernails.

Event: July 22, 2012
Short Synopsis:
Mary O'Callaghan, an LAPD officer with over 18 years on the force and a former marine has been charged with assault under color of authority.
Media reports indicate the victim, Alesia Thomas abandoned her children ages 12 and 3 years old at a police station. Officers tracked Thomas back to her home and arrested her for child abandonment. One media report indicated the children told police that their grandmother would be picking them up.
O'Callaghan is alledged to have kicked a handcuffed Thomas seven times in her lower body area while in the backseat of a police car before she lost conciousness. Thomas died in police custody. The autopsy revealed Thomas had cocaine in her system. The cause of death was ruled "undetermined." The coroner could not rule out the assault as a factor in Thomas' death.
The Police Commission, a civilian oversight board, reviewed the July 22, 2012, incident and issued a report concluding that O'Callaghan used unreasonable force on Alesia Thomas, 35, when she was restrained and in the backseat of a cruiser.

Neal was at the residence before the event. The defendant threatened her with a gun that he touched to the back of her head. She fled to a neighbors yard. She was hiding in the bushes of a neighbors yard when she heard gunshots.
3. SHERELLE BAX (Full name: Sherelle Evelyn Gorgina Owens Bax. aka "Evelyn" Present at the residence during the shootings) Bax saw Pasasouk and Howard Alcantara with weapons. Bax was threatened by Pasasouk with a gun. He pointed it at her, threatened to kill her was pistol whipped. Heard the gunshots.

7. LOURDES PACHECO (Full name: Maria Lourdes Pacheco. Visitor to the Devonshire residence.)
Pacheco arrived at the residence with Howard Alcantara around noon. She was waiting for a ride home. She was still at the residence when the incident occurred. Saw Pasasouk and Alcantara with weapons at the scene. Described the weapons and who had which gun. Testified to the events she witnessed before and after hearing shots fired. Took a security DVD system from the residence at the request of Alcantara after the event. Eventually told police and directed them where she hid it for recovery. Was later charged and convicted of a crime related to this event.
July 31st, 2013 Day 3 Part III (afternoon session)
8. WANITO MENDOZA (AKA "Jun" Visitor at the Devonshire residence)
Testified as to what he witnessed and heard the night of the incident.
9. JAMES KING (LAPD Robbery Homicide Detective)
Assisted in the investigation. Searched the residence and searched the bedroom occupied by Neal and Pasasouk. Recovered a live cartridge from a laundry hamper in the room.
July 31st, 2013 Day 3 Part IV (afternoon session continued)
10. DAN MYERS (LAPD Robbery Homicide Detective - Lead Investigator on case)
Went to the scene. Observed the recovery of cartridge casings near the decedents by criminalists. Observed all four autopsies and the recovery of the bullets by the various deputy coroners. Testified to the inconsistencies of Neal's testimony verses her statements to detectives.
11. KATHLEEN ALVARADO (LAPD SID criminalist)
Compared the cartridge casings recovered at the scene to each other. Determined they were all fired from the same weapon. Compared the live round to the cartridge casings. Came to the opinion that the live round had been cycled through the same weapon that fired the spent cartridge casings.

In the early morning hours of December 2nd, 2012, Ka Pasasouk, 31, is alleged to have murdered four individuals outside an illegal boarding house in Northridge, California. The house was divided up into individual units.
Allegedly, Pasasouk got into an argument with Navales, possibly a property dispute, outside the residence and shot him. Calabia, Kim and Ghossein were shot immediately after.
Pasasouk fled Los Angeles to Las Vegas with three other individuals (Howard Alcantra, 30, Christina Neal, 33, Donna Rabulan, 30), where all four were arrested. Alcantra was charged with robbery and aiding a felon. Neal and Rabulan were charged with aiding a felon.
The case is tragic because in September 2012, Pasasouk was before Van Nuys Couthouse Judge Jessica Silver on drug charges. According to a December 20th, 2012 LA Times article:
The district attorney's office has said it erred in telling Silver that Pasasouk was eligible for a Proposition 36 drug review program, which allowed him to receive treatment rather than prison time.
The Los Angeles County Probation Department had urged that he be sent back to state prison for "long-term detention" because of his lengthy criminal record. But Silver followed the recommendation of the D.A.'s office and ordered him to drug treatment.Less than three months later, four people ended up dead.

BRYAN BARNES & JAVIER BOLDEN PRELIM WITNESS LIST - QUICK LINKS

September 30th, 2013 Day 1
1. VINCENT CARREON (LAPD Detective with Central Gang Homicide Division CGHD out of 77th Station) Carreon testified he arrived at the location of the shooting at 2717 S. Raymond Ave. He described the scene when he arrived. It was raining. A BMW was on Raymond Ave, double parked with a canopy placed over the car to protect evidence. Testified the victim's cell phones were not located at the scene.
2. EURY MALDONADO (Neighbor and "ear witness" to the shooting) Maldonado testified about hearing gunshots. He stepped out onto his second story balcony and observed two individuals by a doubled parked BMW, one on each side. He believes they were arguing. He observed the individuals run south. He saw the driver of the BMW step out of the car. He could see that he was bleeding. He called 911 and then went downstairs to see if he could render aid. He stayed with the male victim (Qu) as he walked then crawled to the porch of 2717 Raymond and knocked on the door. The victim died on the porch without speaking.

3. ROBERT LAIT (LAPD Detective with the gang unit) Lait obtained a wire tap on two phone lines, one belonging to Barnes and one belonging to Bolden. Lait was involved in the investigation. He visited the crime scene.

4. LATIANA COLLINS (continuing testimony) Testified that on the night of April 11th, Barnes told her he was with Javier Bolden. Testified Barnes stated he obtained a cell phone via a robbery. Stated Barnes told her he thought he shot someone during the robbery.

October 2nd, 2013 Day 3
5. BRADLEY NIELSON (LAPD Patrol Officer out of 77th Station) Nielson responded to a shooting on S. Western Ave on December 3rd, 2011 around 12:30 AM. At the scene, he recovered a live round and shell casings for a 9mm as well as shell casings for a 40mm cartridge. He interviewed a witness to the event, witness ABC (a pseudonym).
6. TIMOTHY HALL (Victim of a shooting on December 3rd, 2011) Hall attended at party hosted by Scale 10. Testified he did not see who shot him on Dec. 3rd. Testified he was running away when he was hit eight times. Testified he had no memory of a conversation he had with Officer Yolanda Mansillas on February 22nd, 2012 when she came to his house and showed him a photograph. Hall stated he recognized the officer's voice on the tape recording as well as his own, however, he has no memory of the event or of identifying a photo of Bryan Barnes as "BJ" and placing his own initials on the photograph.
7. YOLANDA MANSILLAS: (LAPD Detective out of 77th Station) Investigated Timothy Hall's shooting. Interviewed Hall and witness ABC. Testified about her interviews of victim Hall and witness ABC, who observed the Hall shooting.
8. LUIS VALLE (LAPD Officer out of 77th Station) Valle responded to a shooting on February 12th, 2012 at 8927 S. Western Avenue. When he arrived on the scene there were two victims on the ground. The male victim, Deionce Davance was on the ground and non-responsive. The female victim was Zanae Flowers. She was shot about a half a block from Davance. Officer Valle testified about 9 millimeter shell casings and a 9 millimeter live round that was located at the scene and booked into evidence.
October 3rd, 2013 Day 4
9. ABC (pseudonum per witness request) (Witness to shooting on December 3rd, 2011) ABC was attending a party event hosted by Scale 10. ABC states she's not a member of Scale 10, but was invited by friends who are members. She has attended several Scale 10 parties. She witnessed a shooting outside the party while sitting in her car. She observed Hall being shot at while he was chased around a car in front of the venue. A few moments later she saw Hall being shot at from the passenger side of a moving red Camaro. ABC identified the shooters as Bryan Barnes and Javier Bolden.
10. CHARLES DARDEN (Cousin to February 12th shooting victim Deionce Davance) Testified he saw Javier Bolden shoot his cousin in the stomach outside a banquet hall on February 12th, 2012.

11. ZANAE FLOWERS (continuing testimony) Flowers was shot on February 12th, 2012 after attending a birthday party for her friend at a banquet hall near the corner of Western & 51st Streets. She was shot in the leg.

September 30th, 2013 Day 1
1. VINCENT CARREON (LAPD Detective with Central Gang Homicide Division CGHD out of 77th Station) Carreon testified he arrived at the location of the shooting at 2717 S. Raymond Ave. He described the scene when he arrived. It was raining. A BMW was on Raymond Ave, double parked with a canopy placed over the car to protect evidence. Testified the victim's cell phones were not located at the scene.
2. EURY MALDONADO (Neighbor and "ear witness" to the shooting) Maldonado testified about hearing gunshots. He stepped out onto his second story balcony and observed two individuals by a doubled parked BMW, one on each side. He believes they were arguing. He observed the individuals run south. He saw the driver of the BMW step out of the car. He could see that he was bleeding. He called 911 and then went downstairs to see if he could render aid. He stayed with the male victim (Qu) as he walked then crawled to the porch of 2717 Raymond and knocked on the door. The victim died on the porch without speaking.

3. ROBERT LAIT (LAPD Detective with the gang unit) Lait obtained a wire tap on two phone lines, one belonging to Barnes and one belonging to Bolden. Lait was involved in the investigation. He visited the crime scene.

4. LATIANA COLLINS (continuing testimony) Testified that on the night of April 11th, Barnes told her he was with Javier Bolden. Testified Barnes stated he obtained a cell phone via a robbery. Stated Barnes told her he thought he shot someone during the robbery.

October 2nd, 2013 Day 3
5. BRADLEY NIELSON (LAPD Patrol Officer out of 77th Station) Nielson responded to a shooting on S. Western Ave on December 3rd, 2011 around 12:30 AM. At the scene, he recovered a live round and shell casings for a 9mm as well as shell casings for a 40mm cartridge. He interviewed a witness to the event, witness ABC (a pseudonym).
6. TIMOTHY HALL (Victim of a shooting on December 3rd, 2011) Hall attended at party hosted by Scale 10. Testified he did not see who shot him on Dec. 3rd. Testified he was running away when he was hit eight times. Testified he had no memory of a conversation he had with Officer Yolanda Mansillas on February 22nd, 2012 when she came to his house and showed him a photograph. Hall stated he recognized the officer's voice on the tape recording as well as his own, however, he has no memory of the event or of identifying a photo of Bryan Barnes as "BJ" and placing his own initials on the photograph.
7. YOLANDA MANSILLAS: (LAPD Detective out of 77th Station) Investigated Timothy Hall's shooting. Interviewed Hall and witness ABC. Testified about her interviews of victim Hall and witness ABC, who observed the Hall shooting.
8. LUIS VALLE (LAPD Officer out of 77th Station) Valle responded to a shooting on February 12th, 2012 at 8927 S. Western Avenue. When he arrived on the scene there were two victims on the ground. The male victim, Deionce Davance was on the ground and non-responsive. The female victim was Zanae Flowers. She was shot about a half a block from Davance. Officer Valle testified about 9 millimeter shell casings and a 9 millimeter live round that was located at the scene and booked into evidence.
October 3rd, 2013 Day 4
9. ABC (pseudonum per witness request) (Witness to shooting on December 3rd, 2011) ABC was attending a party event hosted by Scale 10. ABC states she's not a member of Scale 10, but was invited by friends who are members. She has attended several Scale 10 parties. She witnessed a shooting outside the party while sitting in her car. She observed Hall being shot at while he was chased around a car in front of the venue. A few moments later she saw Hall being shot at from the passenger side of a moving red Camaro. ABC identified the shooters as Bryan Barnes and Javier Bolden.
10. CHARLES DARDEN (Cousin to February 12th shooting victim Deionce Davance) Testified he saw Javier Bolden shoot his cousin in the stomach outside a banquet hall on February 12th, 2012.

11. ZANAE FLOWERS (continuing testimony) Flowers was shot on February 12th, 2012 after attending a birthday party for her friend at a banquet hall near the corner of Western & 51st Streets. She was shot in the leg.
12. TAMARA MCKEEVER (Sister of victim Deionce Davance and best friend of victim Zanae Flowers) Attended the birthday party on February 12th, 2012. Observed events relating to the shooting of Flowers and Davance.

Synopsis:
There are a total of five counts covering three different events and five victims. All events involve shootings. The prosecution alleges the three events are linked by matched bullet casings recovered at the crime scenes.

April 11th, 2012 - USC Chinese Grad Students shooting
Ying Wu and Ming Qu were allegedly shot to death in Qu's double parked BMW during the commission of a robbery, less than a mile from the USC campus. The crime occured around 1 AM on April 11th, 2012. The only thing missing from the vehicle were the victim's cell phones. There was an ear-witness to the shooting who observed two individuals beside the double parked BMW. One individual was standing on the driver's side door of the vehicle and the other individual was standing by the passenger side door. The witness heard the suspects arguing.
Barnes is alleged to have sold one victim's cell phone to a Simple Moble store. The other cell phone was recovered in a bedroom drawer during a search of the residence where Barnes was arrested on May 18th, 2012.
Count 3, 664/187 felony attempted murder against Bolden.
December 3rd, 2011 - Timothy Hall - NOTE: This charge was dropped against defendant Bolden before his trial.
Timothy Hall was shot eight times outside a club in Los Angeles in the early morning hours of December 3rd, 2011. A witness observed Hall being shot at while being chased around a vehicle in front of the club. Moments later, the same witness observed Hall being shot at from the passenger side of a moving vehicle.
Count 4, 664/187 felony attempted murder against Bolden.
February 12, 2012 - Deionce Davance
Deionce Davance was shot twice outside a venue hall in Los Angeles in the early morning hours of February 12th, 2012. Davance was shot in the abdomen first directly in front of the venue. He was shot a second time in the head while trying to flee from his attacker. An eye witness observed the first gunshot and heard the second gunshot.
Count 5, 245, felony assault with a semiautomatic firearm against Bolden.
Zanae Flowers was shot once in the leg while running down Western Ave in the early morning hours of February 12th, 2012.

Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Jahi McMath. This is a tragic situation.
We want the public to know that the family has not permitted us to discuss the medical situation. We are unable–without the family’s permission–to talk about the medical procedure, background or any of the details that are a part of this tragedy. Details that would provide transparency, openness and provide answers to the public about this situation.RESOURCE LINKS
We implore the family to allow the hospital to openly discuss what has occurred and to give us the necessary legal permission–which it has been withholding–that would bring clarity, and we believe, some measure of closure and deeper understanding of this medical case.
Many of the statements made by the family and its attorney must be taken in the context that they will not allow CHO to discuss the case and provide the information necessary for there to be a fuller understanding.
