Stephanie Lazarus Pretrial Hearing 13

Stephanie Lazarus, at her first arraignment hearing in 2009

There is a pretrial hearing at 8:30 am in Department 104 of the downtown Los Angeles Criminal Court Building. At the last pretrial hearing, both prosecution and defense asked the judge to set a date for trial and that date is January 30th, 2012. Today's date was selected for a last check in with Judge Perry and to argue some last minute motions. I'll be posting an update on the hearing later this evening.

Thanks so much for all the reporting that you do. I check here usually twice a day.

Have they made a decision if they are going to televise this trial? I certainly hope so. I can imagine that the interest level in LA would be very high.

Thanks again for your excellent reporting.

I maybe wrong but I believe that I read here that Judge Perry at a prior hearing ruled that the trial would not be televised but that he would allow sketch artists. I think he also said no computers in the courtroom and no texting.

Who's the prosecutor? Alan Jackson I hope! Don't forget to vote for Alan 4 DA.

I apologize everyone. I'm currently helping Mr. Sprocket on a big project and I haven't had a chance to write up my notes yet. I'm writing this on a dinner break at the job site.

Jackson is the assistant head of the Major Crimes Dept. of the LACo. DA's office. This case is being handled by the DA's "Justice Integrity Department. The prosecutors are Shannon Presby and Paul Nunez. Two very sharp prosecutors. I have been told by several sources that Lazarus' defense attorney, Mark Overland is a very, very good attorney. She has good counsel. He's not flashy, and has the obvious respect of the prosecution and the judge.

Nancy B., you are correct. There will be no cameras, laptops or blackberries. Reporters will be reduced to spiral notebooks. The bailiffs better not see your phone out either or it will be confiscated. The Dateline producer was trying to hide his phone under his notebook yesterday. I thought it would get taken away at any moment.

There will be another pretrial hearing Wednesday, January 25th, 2012 at (I think) 10:30 am. I have to check my notes on the time.

Hello Sprocket!I am really looking forward to your coverage of the Lazarus trial! This is an interesting trial to say the least. I check into your website daily for updates. Did judge Perry finalize everything for trial today?

Yes, everything was finalized for trial. Juror pre-screening begins January 30th, 2012.

I would like to know how is Lazarus' appearance? I know she has been in jail since, June 2009 correct? Has she loss weight, appear frail looking, depressed, etc,? Lastly, why is Judge Perry so opposed to cameras in his courtroom?

Anon @ 5:42 pm. I had a long reply typed out and it went poof. I'll try to answer your questions tomorrow.

After court yesterday I drove directly to Mr. Sprocket's big job project site to help him. When I got there, the clutch actuator rod had broken on the White Whale Work Truck. The rest of the afternoon and evening was spent searching for transmission places that might have this old part, as well as checking auto parts stores for after market. Mr. Sprocket, when he fixes something, he always has to modify it. It's the nature of who he is; he's rarely satisfied with how things come out of the box from the manufacturer. With his ingenuity and steadfast doggedness, he was able to put something together using a hardware industrial eye with a bearing in it and combined it with a section of an after market part for a Ford truck, creating a better GM part.

I hope to have my detailed notes on the hearing up sometime before Monday.
